It’s a tough economy and your board members looked at actions we could take to ease the burden a bit. Our email to members gave the welcome news: From March 1, 2009 through February 28, 2010, new and renewing members will not have to pay the $30 Chapter fee.

QUESTIONS ABOUT CRAIGSLIST

The recent murder of a call girl who called herself a masseuse and was found by the killer through an ad on Craigslist has brought several questions from members about the postings on the website. We want you to know AMTA is continuing to research means to have Craigslist remove all advertising that links massage to illegal activity. This includes ongoing contacts with national, state and local law enforcement agencies.

MASSAGE THERAPY LICENSING UPDATE

The Massage Therapy (MT) bill has been introduced in the state House and Senate and is available to read on the state's website. It is the position of the Alliance for Licensing Massage Therapists (ALMT) that the current MT Licensure proposal will (1) remedy the current lack of proactive protection for the public, (2) increase access to care for the public by taking regulation off the plate of cities, (3) create a minimum entry-level credential giving clients, employers and other health care providers a standard credential to look for, and (4) establish an effective regulatory oversight body with representatives of the profession and the public.
