Legislative Update
Jeremy Miller

The 2010 MN Legislative session is scheduled to go from 04Feb2010 through mid-May and the Government Relations Committee, along with the Alliance for Licensing Massage Therapists (ALMT) have been gearing up to be ready for it.

The best way you can help, if you haven't already, is to register with the ALMT as a supporter of a state Massage Therapy law. You will be notified of big developments and most importantly you will be notified when the perfect time to contact your legislator arrives, just before our bill goes into a committee where they will vote on it.

Already registered? Watch your emails for an upcoming draft of a form email you can use for contacting your lawmaker.

Have you moved since getting registered, or opened a new office or started at a new worksite? Contact the ALMT through their website to make sure your addresses (and therefore legislative districts) on file are as up to date as possible. We have a lot going for us this term but to be successful we need therapists like you to stand up and tell the lawmakers that MN has been without a state Massage Therapy law for long enough.

Currently 43 states and the District of Columbia regulate Massage Therapy proactively in a way that MN doesn't. We need to stand together and let the folks at the Capitol who are there to represent your voice know that being behind the class is no longer acceptable.

If you would like to help in other ways or have questions or ideas, contact Government Relations Committee chair Jeremy Miller through the ALMT website, www.almtmn.org.

Thank you for everything you do to advance our profession everyday.
