What an enthusiastic, vibrant experience I had as an AMTA Chapter Delegate representing Minnesota Laurel Iverson
It was a positive jolt of energy being among hundreds of other therapists and body workers!
The first evening I met my two wonderful roommates, Deanna and Diane. I thoroughly enjoyed their company. Then off to our delegate meeting, don’t be late as your presence as a representative is very important. Pins, who has our MN trading pins? This is a great place to trade your state pins and get acquainted with other delegates and chapters.
During this time we were well informed on how the House of Delegates operates. Rules of Procedures and Parliamentary procedures, and Bylaws.
Next day it was the opening session. We were welcomed by the national president, Judy Stahl. We received the association update and the Massage Therapy Foundation update. (Did you know 22% of adults have had a massage in the last 12 months?) Next, keynote speaker Tony Burroughs. He was very uplifting and invigorating. Then many awards were presented.
In a large convention hall there were sponsors and vendors giving away different samples of gels, lotions and creams. It was a great way to preview or purchase computer software, books, oils and DVDs. There were chances to win massage tables, chairs and even $500.
There were also a variety of educational classes to choose from. It goes to show there is so much more to learn in our profession, not just for us but for our clients as well.
I feel it was an honor to represent our AMTA Chapter, and I am looking forward to the Minnesota National Convention next fall. I encourage all our members to get involved. It will be an experience you won’t forget.
