SPORTS MASSAGE TEAM UPDATE
Theresa del Rosario

Another year has come to an end for the sports massage team. In many ways it has been a great year – we had 10 new therapists join the team, we had great turn out at the Ironman bike ride in Lakeville, FANS 24/12 ultra at Lake Nokomis and in Hinckley for the MS150. However the weather did not cooperate at many events and it is reflected in the revenue we were able to generate. Typically we bring in around $1000.00 at the Ironman bike ride, this year we brought in $210.00. Many of our other events did well; the MS150 earned $1,240.00 for the team and in the end we totaled $2,160.00 in revenue.

The team charity this year is the Center for Victims of Torture, an organization that works to heal the wounds of torture on individuals, their families and their communities. A check for $216.00 was sent to the CVT which is located in Minneapolis and was founded in May 1985 as an independent, nongovernmental organization.

Each year two awards are given to therapists for their outstanding service to the team, this year the winners are:

Therapist of the Year – Mary Fertl

Mary joined in 2008 and has been a reliable member of the team. She has worked many events over the years and often on a last minute e-mail or call! Mary was with us at four of our events this year, her talent, energy and optimism are ever present and appreciated.

Iron Hands – Barbara Wild

Barbara and I met at the Spring Conference in April. While talking she expressed an interest in the team, yet concern with her skill set or ability to work with athletes. I assured her she would do fine and have fun in the process. She joined us at FANS, the MS150 and Jesse James. She has proven to be that outstanding therapist!

It has been a wonderful year and I couldn’t have made it through the season without the help of Evelyn Ashford, my co-director. She helped carry the load when I needed it most…thank you!

As this year is being put to rest, work has already begun on next season! Come January be on the lookout for e-mails about the coming season and the spring meeting.

I say it frequently, but it is heart felt each and every time: THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME, TALENT AND ENERGY!
